MTKMF Food Pickup 2008 – Live Blog

Last year’s pick up was a total disaster….Watch the drama unfold here all day live on MTKMF.com

232PM: We ate.  We feel great.  We’re ready to celebrate.

END LIVE BLOG

206pm Feeding time for the buddies…..We are in Amagansett – one town from Montauk. We need fuel though, and Damien is doing a good deed for the day and buying me lunch. The car is also overflowing with food. We estimate that we could feed 200 people one meal, but instead we are going to give you all 10.

1:34PM: Just left King Cullen. Got a whole lot of last minute items. As we were packing the car (literally to the brim) an elderly woman pushing her cart turns and says “can i come to your party-” Julian and I smiled; though I do love older women I think i’ll leave the geriatric alone… Very excited to eat some food, since we think that our general dispositions will improve with some of it in us. Looking forward to getting into Montauk. Seth and co. are sitting in traffic just ahead of us. Plan is to distribute food to the different Households and respective refrigerators from Julian’s abode… fuck i can’t wait for the beach.

12:14PM: Julian decided to take the back roads. We are almost at King Cullen. Here’s our grocery list. Sorry Austin the committee decided no go on beer drinking games, keep that at the sig chi frat house 😉

11:47AM: SO we are starting to get a little cranky, cause we haven’t eaten and we’ve hit a touch of traffic and it’s a beautiful beach day and we are stuck in the car… Just picked up the corona, only got 4 cases (surprise, surprise we are over budget! and still have more to buy but don’t worry big julie and I are never afraid to charge it on us 😉 2 more stops- King Cullen and The Big K both are in the lovely Bridgehampton Commons…

11:13AM: After checing the accuweather forecast and cross-checking it with the weather.com forecast, Julian and I nearly went into cardiac arrest. Luckily it seems like the rain is all coming overnight, so our meat stays dry for the moment. I also contacted Peconic Beverage in Southampton, and have put five cases (24 beers each not 12) aside for our pick up in a half hour.

10:35AM: He may not agree with the direction that mtkmf has taken, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still count on him in the clutch. As I pondered how we would fit this years added items in our collective refrigerators, Russell Christian Wojtusiauk kindly offered up the auxillary basement refrigerator in his old house by the Montauk Downs… And from the Traffic Desk– looks like clear sailing on the Southern State for Big Julie and I. Mr. Sethington Daniel Dubner is just now getting on the Long Island Expressway…

10:09AM: All packages of meat, produce, and various sundries have been locked and loaded in Connie’s Jeep… And Russell we will be calling you to use one of the three lovely industrial refrigerators you have in that new small house of yours 😉 …. another quick note– Julian is now driving because I hate driving, and am not that good at it, so I will be updating your live blog needs.

942am After numerous misdirections we have arrived at the Food Authority. The first stop of the day. The bathroom is actually the first stop.

900am – We have readers. Hannah Solomon and Lindsay Anmuth are sitting at home refreshing MTKMF.com and eating breakfast.

857am About 45 min ago Damien struggled to find music on his iPod that he wanted to play for the ride. I stepped in and played us some tunes. After my music was on and I went to change it, his excellency Damien Cortese told me, “Change this music I’m sick of it, after I let you play your music in my car”

852am – We ago lost!!! Missed a turn…saw some beautiful Robert Moses ocean and we are 30 minutes away and we are punchy.

738am – I requested that I would like to stop for a cup of coffee and was greeted with mild resistance. I took it as, “Don’t delay me” from Damien, but I was quickly shot down when I told Damien don’t rush this trip because you feel the need to get back before everyone else coming out. A mild tiff, but quickly resolved when Damien entered the Coffee shop that also had a wealth of Bagels. We both passed on the bagels but Damien had regrets, “I really wanted a bagel, I’m like an alcoholic with them.”

CORRECTION – quote at the gas station was “is it safe to start the car with the cap off” not the car on as previously reported.

719am – I just got an update from the NYC meat distributor. Our meat order is still being cut and will delay the delivery to the redenez-vous point by 30 min.

716am – Some more MeatFest appreciation babble…We take the time to appreciate the fact that two MeatFest attendees don’t eat Meat. We are also making our first stop of the day, getting gas. While pumping Damien asks me, “is it a bad idea to start a car while the gas is pumping?”

707am – Damien arrives at my home honking his horn while approaching. As I fire up the computer Damien tells me that I should wait until we are ready to blog so we don’t waste the battery on the computer. I tell him its a live blog baby and we are going live now. No traffic to report and no haze either. Damien is also complaining that I wanted to listen to NPR, “Oh NPR!!!”
